Your field guide to Allegheny County’s Department of Human Services

Welcome – We’re so glad you’re here!

This training was created with you in mind, as a DHS employee, to help you better understand how our organization is structured and how each part contributes to our shared mission. By gaining clarity on the roles and responsibilities across DHS, you’ll be better equipped to collaborate with colleagues across offices and support clients with complex, multi-faceted needs.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

• Describe DHS’s place within the county, state, and federal government.
• Explain DHS’s vision, values and goals and how each individual and office contributes to these. 
• Identify the role and responsibilities of our program and support offices. 
• Understand the value of integration and the role it plays in serving children, adults & families, and the community.
